Andrew "Mick" John Meyers' Obituary
Andrew J. “Mick” Meyers, of Muskegon, Michigan, passed away on February 6, 2026, at The Leila and Cyrus Poppen Hospice Residence after a four-year battle with cancer.
He was born on June 10, 1936, to Louis and Marguerite (Keur) Meyers in Muskegon, Michigan. Mick graduated from Muskegon High School in 1955 and then enlisted in the United States Army. He served with the 7th Infantry Division, 31st Infantry Regiment in Korea. He was awarded multiple medals and a letter of commendation for his service. He was most proud to have received the Ambassador of Peace Medal, which was presented to him in 2022 by the Korean Consulate in Chicago, Illinois. He was a life member of VFW Post 446 until it closed, after which he transferred to Post 8846. He was also a life member of the 31st Infantry Regiment Association, a life member of Amuets Post 1994, and a member of the Korean War Veterans Association.
He married Jacqueline L. Paxson on October 1, 1960, and they spent almost 63 years together before she passed away on July 13, 2023. They had two children together, Lisa and Andrew Jr.
Mick was employed by Consumers Power Company for over thirty years. Before that, he worked as a milkman for Sanitary Dairy Company for several years.
While working for Consumers Power Company, he was awarded two medals and certificates for saving a neighbor's life by administering CPR. The National Safety Council presented him with the President's Medal, and Consumers Power Company gave him their Exceptional Service Medal.
Mick served on the board for Consumers Power Company Credit Union. He was a member of UWUA #103 and was made a life member when he retired.
Mick was a longtime member of Laketon Bethel Reformed Church. Over the years, he volunteered to help with many projects there. Prior to his time at Laketon Bethel, he was a member of Olivet Reformed Church, where he and Jackie were married and where he served as a deacon.
He also enjoyed doing volunteer work at the USS LST 393 Museum in Muskegon. He restored the battery room, the laundry room, and the wheel house and did several other odd jobs around the ship.
Mick, Jackie, and their family enjoyed traveling around the country, including twice to Alaska. They had a two-hundred-dollar pop-up camper that they dragged to many places, including out West, down South, and to Canada. The Upper Peninsula was their favorite, though. They went to Copper Harbor as often as they could, where they hiked and explored the old mining areas.
In past years, Mick also enjoyed fishing with a group of friends in Canada annually. They enjoyed traveling by car, railroad, or plane to explore a new lake every year.
Mick also enjoyed hunting and bowling. He and Jackie both loved nature and did a lot of hiking in Muskegon State Park. Mick also spent countless hours in the dunes with his metal detector and always brought home some rusty treasures. He found relaxation when he was outside tending to his lawn and flowers.
He was blessed with many friends that he loved dearly, Phil (Pat) Berdinskis, Sue and Clay Orrison, Julie and John Malinowski, Stacey, Paul, Kate, and Allie Miller. Mick and his family are deeply grateful for the care that his friends gave over the year.
Mick is also survived by a loving family, including his children, Lisa (Larry) Joslyn and Andrew Meyers Jr.; siblings, Ruthann Hoff, Sam (Karen) Meyers; brother and sister-in-law, Richard and Judy Paxson; many cousins, nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
Mick is preceded in death by his wife, Jackie; parents; in-laws Evelyn and Bryce Paxson; sister-in-law Francis Paxson; and brother-in-law Ronald Hoff.
The family would like to thank the staff of Harbor Hospice, including the Poppen Residence for their compassionate care of their Dad. They would also like to thank Laketon Bethel Church for their care, cards, and visits.
A memorial service will be held for Mick on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11 am at Laketon Bethel Church, 1568 W Giles Rd, Muskegon, MI 49445. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to The Harbor Hospice Foundation or Laketon Bethel Church.
