Andrew J. "Andy" VanderMolen's Obituary
Andrew J. “Andy” VanderMolen Jr., age 76, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2022. He was born July 30, 1946 in Muskegon to Andrew J. and Marketa (Vaughan) VanderMolen Sr. On August 1, 1970, he married the love of his life, the former Gloria K. Genter in Muskegon. Andy worked as a mechanic for the Muskegon Township Highway Department for 13 years. He was a former member of First Reformed Church and most recently had attended Unity Reformed Church. He was an avid fisherman, a teaser, and a kidder. He was a hot rod car owner and enthusiast, and could tell the make, model, and year of any car made prior to 1980 just by glancing at it. Andy could fix or build anything and would teach his boys and their friends just by them watching him. While in Boy Scouts, he and the boys were Pine Wood Derby winners many times as well as multiple winners of the father/son cake decorating contest. He will be greatly missed. SURVIVORS include his wife of 52 years, Gloria; two sons: Ron (Bonnie) VanderMolen of Whitehall and Steve (Samantha Neeld) VanderMolen of Wapak, OH; 11 grandchildren: Austin and Jordan VanderMolen, Chris Peacock, Victoria and Amanda Swanson, Brennen and Camren Brandt, Payten VanderMolen, Coral Caires, Kayley Earl, and Sarah Hogan; six great-grandchildren: Payton VanderMolen, Vinny Peacock, Daxton Stuck, Oliver Eilers, Roan Caires, and Riley Hogan; sister-in-law, Wanda (Chuck) Lind; brother-in-law, Mike (Pablo Arontes) Jones; and a host of nieces and nephews. Andy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rood VanderMolen; sister, Cora Glassnor; and a sister-in-law, Sue Jones. A family gathering to celebrate Andy’s life will be held at a later date. MEMORIALS to the Unity Reformed Church Memorial Fund will be appreciated.
