Mr. Angus J. Blackmer Jr.'s Obituary
Mr. Angus J. Blackmer Jr., age 87, passed away Friday afternoon, April 6, 2018, at his home. Angus was born November 12, 1930 to Angus and Stella (Piasecki) Blackmer in Muskegon. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On April 24, 1954, Jack married the former Marilyn F. Leonard, and she survives him. Jack had worked at Shaw Box Crane/Dresser/ Lift Tech for 43 years, retiring in 1996, where he had served as union president and a board member of the Shaw Box Crane Credit Union. He was a longtime member of St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, and a member of the VFW Post #3195. Jack was also longtime cub scout master, an avid Lions fan, and enjoyed fishing and golfing. He also enjoyed dancing with Marilyn, and all the time spent with the grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to Marilyn, his wife of nearly 64 years, he is survived by his children, Michael (Sandra) Blackmer, Karen (Darrell) VanderKooi and Chris Blackmer; 8 grandchildren, Wayne Olson, Joe Blackmer, Kevin (Melissa) Blackmer, Steven (Alissa) VanderKooi, Lisa (Brian) Corcoran, Christopher Blackmer, Zach and Samantha Chase; 9 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Timothy Robert; sister, Jean Brazee; and brother, Bob Blackmer. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at St. Thomas The Apostle Catholic Church, 3252 Apple Ave., with Rev Fr. Antony Britto presiding, and Full Military Rites under the auspices of VFW Muskegon County Council. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the Mass (10-11 AM). Entombment at St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contribution may be made to Harbor Hospice Foundation.
