Anita M. (Vela) Alviar's Obituary
Anita M. (Vela) Alviar, age 70, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018. She was born July 17, 1948 in Shelby, MI to Jose and Luisa (Lopez) Vela and lived in the Muskegon area since 1977. Anita graduated Shelby High School in 1967. She worked over 25 years at Honeywell-Burdick & Jackson Chemical Company and retired in 2009. She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she volunteered with the Altar Guild. Anita was a devoted Catholic and supporter of the Muskegon County Right to Life. She also sewed quilts for the Muskegon Rescue Mission. SURVIVORS include 3 children, Robert Alviar, Chevella Alviar, and Richard Alviar; 4 grandchildren, Alecia Alviar, Antonio Alviar, Nathan Hall, Alana Alviar; 1 great-grandson, Liam Alviar; 3 brothers, Jose (Lottie) Vela II, Alejos (Sally) Vela, Elias Vela; 3 sisters, Carolina Vela, Virginia Mata, Josephine Rose; and her former spouse, Guadalupe Alviar, Jr. Anita was preceded in death by her grandson, Alexander Alviar in July 2018; her parents; and 3 brothers, Raymond, Arthur and Robert Vela. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 10:00 AM Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (239 W. Clay Ave.) with the Rev. Fr. Matthew J. Barnum presiding. INTERMENT will take place at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Shelby. VISITATION will be held 5-8 PM Monday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. The Rosary will be prayed at 5:15 PM Monday. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to Mass, 9-10 AM Tuesday at St. Mary’s.
