Ann Hamil's Obituary
Ann Hamil passed away peacefully on Friday, January 8, 2021, after a short illness. She was born in Muskegon on July 31, 1927 to Thomas and Anna (Valuch) Hornak. After graduation from Muskegon Heights High School, she was employed by Sealed Power Corporation, Holland Motor Express and Lyons Transportation Lines. On October 27, 1962, she married Richard G. Hamil and was married for 48 years until his passing in 2011. Ann was a lifelong member of Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church, serving as a Sunday school teacher and a member of Dorcas Circle. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, bird watching, spending time with family and friends, and traveling. Through the years Ann and Richard traveled to all 50 states. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Paul (Polly) Hornak, Samuel (Audrey) Hornak, and brother-in-law, Roelof “Rudy” (Dorothy) Hamil. She is survived by her daughters Dawn (Jack) Snider of Walker and Diane (Kirby) Sparks of Spring Lake; two grandson, Reed Snider and Tyler Sparks, and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff and residents of Lakeshore Assisted Living for their care and friendship. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a private funeral for immediate family only will be held at Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church with Rev. Michael Johnson presiding. The service will be broadcast live at 12:00 PM Sunday, January 17, 2021 on Facebook at the Church’s site: www.facebook.com/DMLChurchELCA. Interment will be at Norton Cemetery. A Public Memorial Service will be held 12:30 PM Saturday, July 31, 2021 at Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church (1860 E Hile Rd, Norton Shores) followed by a Celebration of Life Open House 1-3 PM outside on the Church grounds to honor her 94th Birthday. Casual attire is suggested and refreshments will be provided. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church.
