Ann E. Matthews' Obituary
Ann Elizabeth Matthews, age 73, passed away on April 2, after an extended battle with cancer and heart disease. Muskegon was her life-long home, born at Hackley Hospital on August 13, 1946. Ann attended Bunker Junior High School, Muskegon Senior High (1964), Kendall School of Design and Western Michigan University. She was employed as an interior designer and later as a public-school substitute teacher. Ann was a faithful volunteer with Muskegon’s Civic Opera and an usher at the Frauenthal Center for many years. She served in multiple roles with the Miss Michigan Pageant, which was her fondest volunteer opportunity. She especially loved watching U of M sporting events and spending time at the Lake Michigan beach. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Beatrice Matthews. She is survived by one brother, Rev. John Matthews (Patty), of Apple Valley, Minnesota, two nieces, Sari Flatness (Jon) and Maren Okrzynski, and three great-nephews: Dylan & Soren Okrzynski and Cole Flatness. In light of the current Covid-19 pandemic, a memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements by The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441.
