Ann L. Rogalla Portenga's Obituary
Mrs. Ann Louise Rogalla Portenga, age 51, died at home early Friday morning, November 18, 2005. She was born on June 26, 1954, in Muskegon to Richard A. & Patricia (Roberts) Rogalla, and was a life resident of the Muskegon area. Ann was the Director of Music/Organist at First Congregational Church for the past 20 years. She was also the director of the Children’s Choir and Bell Choirs at the church. Ann was a long time member of the West Shore Symphony Orchestra where she played both the French horn and harpsichord. She was a member of the Lakeshore Chapter of American Guild of Organists, where she was past dean, and member of the American Chorister’s Guild. Ann received an Associate’s Degree from Muskegon Community College, her Bachelors Degree from the School of Music at the University of Michigan, and did post graduate organ study at Valparaiso University. Ann was an aficionado of Muskegon History and a lover of Pere Marquette Beach. She was an avid U of M fan, loved traveling and spending time with her family at their cabin on the Manistee River. On August 26, 1978, she married her husband, Roy, and he survives her along with 3 children, Ryan, Eric, and Elizabeth all of Muskegon; her parents, Richard A. & Patricia Rogalla of Muskegon; 1 brother, Richard B. (Laurie) Rogalla of Roosevelt Park; 2 sisters, Susan (Charles) Tindall of Muskegon, Eileen (Richard) Hoogterp of Norton Shores; mother-in-law, Jean Portenga of Spring Lake; in-laws, James (Sandee) Portenga of Spring Hill, FL, Donald (Lorraine) Portenga of Grand Haven, Caryn (Fredrick) Beck of Ann Arbor, Carolyn Hottinger of Jacksonville, FL; and many nieces and nephews. SERVICES will be 2PM Monday at First Congregational Church. VISITATION with the family will be 2-7 PM at First Congregational Church on Sunday. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS to Hospice of Muskegon-Oceana or the Music Department of First Congregational Church would be appreciated.
