Anthony R. "Tony" Elwell's Obituary
Anthony R. “Tony” Elwell, age 43, passed away unexpectedly from surgical complications on Tuesday, January 3, 2023. He was born on May 8, 1979, to Rick Elwell and Maloah Elwell-Griffin in Muskegon, MI. He graduated from Mona Shores High School class of 1998. Tony dedicated several years to working as a carpenter in Vermont at Stratton Mountain Resort before making his way back to Muskegon where he worked as a forklift operator at La Colombe Coffee. He was a faithful servant of our Lord an attended Covenant Community Church. Tony had a love for singing that started in high school and continued into his church home, where he was part of their choir. He loved spending his time out on the greens golfing or shredding the slopes snowboarding. He was also a talented woodworker and thrived as a carpenter. Tony had seen a great deal of challenges throughout his life, but he had the willpower and determination to achieve his goals. He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, where their focus is on unity, recovery and service. Tony felt great pride in his sobriety and dedicated his time to Life Align Inc., which was an outreach program that held a special place in his heart. Above all, he truly loved spending time, cracking jokes and cherishing the memories he made with his family. His strong-willed and tender-loving spirit will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his mother, Maloah Elwell-Griffin; father, Rick Elwell; sister, Angela (Pete) Thompson; 3 nephews, Cameren, Caleb and Colin; 3 aunts, Paula Walters, Julie (Burt) Wachter and Virginia Elwell; uncle, Wayne (Ann) Griffin; cousins, John Walters and Joanne (Tyrone) Conarty, Burt (Brenda) Wachter, Joel Wachter, Missy (Chris) Near, Danielle (Matt) Mctaggart and Sean Griffin; and all their families. He is preceded by his paternal grandparents, Richard (Marjorie) Elwell; maternal grandparents, Wayne (Pauline) Griffin; and uncle, David Elwell. A Celebration of Anthony’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 13, 2023, at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church, 4861 Henry St., Norton Shores, MI 49441. A visitation with the family from 10-11:00 AM at church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tony’s honor can be directed to Life Align Inc., 3375 Merriam Ave., Suite 202, Muskegon Heights, MI 49444.
