Mr. Anthony "Tony" Sass' Obituary
Mr. Anthony A. “Tony” Sass, age 93, passed away on Friday, November 10th, 2017. He was born September 25, 1924 to Anthony and Angela (Mantych) Sass in Freesoil, MI and lived in Battle Creek before moving to the Muskegon area in 1964. Tony was also a member of the Marine Corp, having served as a U.S. Marine during WWII and was part of the “Chosin Few” in the Korean War. Tony worked as a drywaller, and owned Tony’s Drywall for 50 years before retiring in 1997. He was a very active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, was a prayer group leader for over 30 years and was involved with the Cursillo ministry. On June 25, 1955, he married Kathleen M. Halloran and she preceded him in death on March 17, 2017. Survivors include 3 children, Mary “Angie” Austin, Terrence L. Sass, Margaret “Peg” (Terry) Simon; granddaughter, Laura Simon; step grandchildren, Amy Jo (John) Gongalski, Adam (Jenny) Simon, Amy (Mary) Simon; and 7 great grandchildren. A combined Mass and Christian Burial for Tony and Kathleen will be celebrated on Friday at 11am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, with Fr. Charlie Hall presiding. Friends and family may meet at the church one hour prior to the service. Visitation from 6pm to 8pm on Thursday November 16 at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565 with a rosary at 7:30. Inurnment will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery at a later date. You may visit the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Tony may be made to Muskegon Area Right to Life or Spring Lake Lions' hearing aid program.
