Arlee T. Bodnar's Obituary
Arlee Theresa Bodnar, peacefully passed away to her Heavenly home on September 17, 2023, at the age of 89. Arlee, the youngest of three, was born to Oscar and Dina Schultz on April 1, 1934 in Muskegon, MI. She graduated from St. Jean’s Catholic School. Arlee lived the majority of her life in Muskegon, where she met her husband, Eugene Bodnar, and married in 1959. She was a dedicated and loving mother to their two children, Lisa and David. After staying home to raise her children, she worked as an administrative secretary at Mercy Hospital for many years, until her retirement. Arlee was a devoted Catholic who regularly attended and volunteered at Sacred Heart Church for several decades. She was a woman of strong faith and was a true role model for her children and grandchildren. Arlee enjoyed the simple things in life such as gardening, golfing, reading, sewing, baking, decorating for the holidays, and creating special memories for her grandchildren. She also loved traveling, especially to Jekyll Island, GA, and to Virginia to spend time with her family. Arlee spent her last 7 years living in Virginia near her daughter, son in-law, and grandchildren. Despite her 10 year battle with dementia, Arlee was always kind and loving to her family, as well as the staff and residents of Meadow Glen Assisted Living. She handled her challenges with a smile on her face, a great sense of humor, and a positive attitude. Arlee leaves behind her daughter, Lisa (Todd) Peterson of Virginia, son, David Bodnar of Grand Rapids, MI, and her four grandchildren, Brett and Holly Peterson, and Hannah and Haley Bodnar. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Bodnar in 2015, as well as her sister, Jeanne Gainer, brother, Roy Schultz, and her parents, Oscar and Dina Schultz. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, September 25, 2023, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444, with visitation taking place an hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Arlee’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association. Please sign the family’s online guestbook and share memories with the family at sytsemafh.com
