Arlene Sheffield's Obituary
Arlene Sheffield, age 82, of Grand Haven passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at Lakeshore Assisted Living. She was born December 10, 1934, in the farmhouse in Dorr, Michigan to Andrew and Agnes (De Haan) Vander Lugt, and she married Donald Sheffield (who she met on a blind date) on March 7, 1957, in Pine Rest Chapel, Cutlerville, Michigan.
Arlene was a member of Second Christian Reformed Church in Grand Haven. She worked as a psychiatric nurse at Pine Rest in Cutlerville, and on March 6, 1978, Arlene and Don bought the Butcher Boys store and changed the name to Sheffield’s Meat Market which she owned and operated with her husband, for many years. Arlene’s goals were always to be a good Christian, wife, mother, and grandmother. She especially enjoyed making dinner and desserts, going on walks with Don, playing card games, car rides to the beach, watching a beautiful sunset, watching Wheel of Fortune, and spending time with her family.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Donald Sheffield of Grand Haven; two daughters, Sandra French of Akron, CO. and Linda Bareham of Grand Haven; son, Greg (Vicki) Sheffield of Manistee; five grandchildren: Jessica, Kurt, Arielle, Kirsten, and Andrew; three great-grandchildren: Jackson, Alexa Jo and Zander; her sister, Nella (Alfred) Bode of Cadillac; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony Vander Lugt and Leonard Vander Lugt, son-in-law, Bruce Bareham, and sister, Ida De Jong.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 11, 2017, at Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, The VanZantwick Chapel with Rev. Laura de Jong officiating. Friends may meet the family from 1- 4 p.m. Sunday, December 10, at The VanZantwick Chapel. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery.
