Arlene M. Smith's Obituary
Mrs. Arlene M. Smith, 88, passed away Wednesday afternoon, September 7, 2022, in Muskegon. She was born March 30, 1934, in Muskegon and was a lifelong resident. Arlene was a devout Catholic and was a longtime member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. She served on the funeral luncheon committee at the former St. Joseph Catholic Church. She cooked for the Deanery and belonged to the Ladies Guild. She enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, friends, priests, and baking for the Catholic Central fish fries. Most of all, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were most important to her. On September 19, 1953, she married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Smith at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and they had 52 beautiful years together. Dick preceded her in death on August 16, 2005. Survivors include three children: Monica (Ed) Wiggers, Maureen (James) Bleich, Mark Smith; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Kevin and Christopher Smith, daughter, Colleen Smith; sisters: Margaret Mary Wickerink, Betty Jean Wickerink, and Barb Iwania; The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, September 15, at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Visitation at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441, from 6-8 PM Wednesday, with the Rosary prayed at 6:00 PM. Interment will take place at St. Marys Cemetery. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Smith may be made to The Harbor Hospice Foundation.
