Arnold K. "Arnie" Brondyke's Obituary
Arnold K. Brondyke went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday evening, January 7, 2015. He was born June 5, 1930 in Norton Shores to Harry and Julia (Johnson) Brondyke. He married Barbara Jane Dykhouse on March 3, 1956. As a young man, he worked on the family farm and built houses with his father. In 1955, he began employment with Dykhouse Brothers, Inc. and worked there for nineteen years. He and Barb owned and operated the South Shore Motel in Grand Haven for several years and later also owned the Anchor Motel. Arnie had many interests during his lifetime, but especially enjoyed his grandchildren. He and Barb were full-time RVers for nine years, traveling to many different states and wintering in Florida. They enjoyed snowmobiling, ATV’s and fishing. He owned several different boats during his life and enjoyed spending time on the water with his family. Growing up he attended Little Black Lake Church in Norton Shores and drove the church bus. After he and Barb married, they attended Grand Haven Gospel Chapel. He was very generous with his time and kept the church parking lot plowed for thirteen years. Arnold is survived by his wife, Barbara, of 58 years; daughter Kay (Gerald) Hessman of Columbus, OH; son, Roger of Ferrysburg; and four grandchildren, Jenna (Kyle) Host of Comstock Park, Brian of Coopersville and Nicholas and Jacob of Walker. Also surviving him are two sisters, Beth McMillan of Grand Haven, and Anna (Dewey) Phillips of Norton Shores; two sisters-in-law, Lillian Brondyke of Spring Lake and Marjorie Brondyke of Atlanta, GA; and one brother-in-law, Andy Nelson of Grand Haven; as well as several nieces and nephews. Please join the family in Celebration of his life, 4:00PM Monday, January 12, 2015, at the Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100) with the Revs. Ken Shady and Tim Brondyke officiating. Friends may meet the family one-hour prior to the service. His final resting place will be in Norton Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial, you are asked to consider Grand Haven Gospel Chapel or Bair Lake Bible Camp.
