I have fond memories of the Berg family. Mr. Berg always treated me with respect. I went into the Navy with Dan and hung out with Armin and his cousin Brus. I could not attend the services, and m sorry for the loss##imported-begin##David Ferrell##imported-end##
Roger (Bill), Ernamae and Mary have long, long term memories of Arnold. Calvin enjoyed meeting him and spending some time with him and Eileen at Wendy's.
Roger and Mary appreciated his company on a 1974 trip to Boyertown, PA, where he was enjoyed by Roger's family. Roger vividly remembers Arnold's response on I-80 where the highway descended into the Allegheny River Valley and crossed on a fairly high bridge. Roger said "Hey, look at the view!" and Arnold said "Oh no, I've got my eyes closed!" Roger still chuckles that Arnold the bridge tender closed his eyes going over a bridge. Another memory from that trip was Arnold's enjoyment of the "Gilbertsville Sale," a large, rambling, somewhat ramshackle place that included flea market stalls, auctions, fresh local produce, meats, dairy products, baked goods (like shoo-fly pie and sticky buns), many antique booths, etc. etc.
Ernamae enjoyed many, many conversations on the commute with him to Edgewood Elementary School in Fruitport.
As a family we were privileged to be next door neighbors (at least to their property on Columbus Street) for about seven years, and then were honored to be treated to lunches at Wendy's on a number of visits when we returned to Grand Haven.
Mary especially remembers the Easter baskets and the shared interest in antiques. Arnold and Eileen were fascinated that Mary would choose an antique over any toy.
We certainly heard about Roger, Dan, Armin and grandchildren, but we may have moved from the neighborhood (August, 1979) before great grandchildren arrived. Arnold kept us posted on any changes that were made at 1015 Columbus Ave.
Many decisions may already have been made, but may any remaining decisions of sorting, keeping, passing on to family, donating, or discarding be a labor of love, blessed with the memories of parents with solid values.##imported-begin##Roger & Ernamae Weidner & Mary & Calvin Feik##imported-end##
We just wanted to let the family know how much we enjoyed their mom and dad as neighbors. Being neighbors for 27 years has enriched our family's lives.
We miss looking over the fence and or seeing them walk by. Our hearts go out to all of you. Coast Guard week will not be the same. Much Love and blessings to you all. Jim, Denise MacKay Deia and Brigitte Brault##imported-begin##Denise and Jim MacKay##imported-end##
To the family, please accept my sincere condolences. Mr. Berg was very influential in my days at Fruitport Junior High, and despite his policy of "No Horseplay" we learned a lot and had lots of fun in his shop class. DE, class of '58.##imported-begin##David Engle##imported-end##
My most sincere condolences to the Berg Family, Mr Berg was my 4th grade teacher at Fruitport elementery in 1965, He was a very well liked teacher by all the kids, I remeber some one made a fort out of popcicle sticks and we all threw paper airplanes up in it, Mr Berg came in and got up there and gave us all back our airplanes. A very kind and good man. I'm sure he'll be missed.
