Mr. Arthur "Art" Derks' Obituary
Mr. Arthur R. “Art” Derks, 82, passed away early Thursday morning, April 13, 2017 in Muskegon. He was born July 26, 1934 in Fremont, MI, and lived his whole life in the W. Michigan area. Art worked as a carpet and floor covering installer, and served 25 years on the Egelston Township Fire Dept., 2 years as the Fire Chief. He also was the first officer on the Egelston Township Police Dept. On March 24, 1953, he married Phyllis J. Musk, and she survives him along with 2 children, Glen (Kathy) Derks of Cedar Park, TX, Pamela (Ken) Porter of Rothbury; 4 grandchildren, Cari, Michelle, Mindy and Glen II; 5 great grandchildren, Alicia, Brandon, Blane, Faith and Jonathon; brothers and sisters, Richard, Norman, Russ, Bernard and Melvin Derks, Robert and Randy Wells, Marylou Shaffer, Sandy Dulaban, Luanna Schaefer and Loretta Pagliocca; and his puppies Zoie and Baylee. Art was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Gordon. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 18, at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210, with visitation 1 hour prior to the service.
