Arthur "John" Koster's Obituary
Mr. Arthur “John” Koster, age 75, of Grand Rapids passed away Monday, May 4, 2015 at Heartwood Lodge in Spring Lake. He was born November 6, 1939 in Marne to John and Edna (Walma) Koster. On September 30, 1960 he married the former Judith McKey in Grand Rapids.
John was the former president of the Michigan Cattlemen’s Association and was a member of the National Cattlemen’s Association. As a young farmer he was asked to join the Kellogg Young Farmers Study Group through Michigan State University. The Kellogg Young Farmers traveled the world representing agriculture from the United States. Educating farmers was a passion that he wanted to pass on to others. John also worked with the Ottawa County Social Services. He loved to travel, go to the cottage, spend time on the lake and snow skiing, but most of all he loved his family and spending time on his farm.
He is survived by his wife, Judith; three children: Bradley (Shelley) Koster of Hessel, Shellie Koster of Boca Raton, FL, Ken (Melissa) Koster of Spring Lake; six grandchildren: Kate, Audrey, and John Koster, Anne, Sara, and Jack Koster; one sister, Shirley (Fred) Langland.
A memorial celebration will take place later this summer. Memorial contributions in memory of John may be given to Hospice of North Ottawa Community. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.vbkfuneralhome.com.
The family is being served by VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home of Spring Lake.
