Arthur P. Wolffis' Obituary
Art Wolffis, age 83, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016 at the Hospice Residence at Heartwood Lodge surrounded by his family. He resided at American House, Willowbrook, prior to his entering Hospice care. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the excellent care he received both at Willowbrook and Heartwood Lodge. Art was born January 21, 1933 in Muskegon to Jack and Henrietta (Cooper) Wolffis. Art served in the U.S. Army at Camp Gordon, Georgia from 1953-1955. After returning from military service, he went to work at the Muskegon Chronicle. He started in the mailroom, moved into advertising, worked as a journeyman printer, copy editor, regional editor, and finally as the Grand Haven Bureau Chief. He retired from The Chronicle in December, 1995. He was active in First Christian Reformed Church and Christian School projects, MAP Supper House, and Northside Lions. With the Northside Lions, he assisted in putting up the flag displays on the Causeway for many years. He recently became a member of Laketon Bethel Reformed Church following the closure of First Christian Reformed Church. Art enjoyed boating, golfing with his life-long friend Bob Workman, attending Tuesday morning breakfasts at Russ’ with his pals, snowmobile trips up north with his sons and grandsons, and a good cup of coffee with a chocolate chip cookie. Art was preceded in death by his first wife of 40 years, Jacquelyn Cooper Wolffis, in 1996. He married Susan Harrison-Wolffis in 2001. Art and Susan celebrated 15 years of marriage together this year. He is survived by his wife Susan Harrison-Wolffis, his son, Jeff Wolffis, daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Doug Dolislager, son and daughter-in-law, John and Jennifer Wolffis, and his grandsons, Mason and Caleb Wolffis. He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Henrietta Wolffis, brothers and sisters-in-law, Bob and Wilma Wolffis, and Don and Marilyn Wolffis. FUNERAL SERVICES for Mr. Arthur Wolffis will be held at 11:00AM Thursday, November 3, 2016 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, 231-798-1100, with the Rev. Jerry Hagans officiating. Interment will be at Laketon Township Cemetery. VISITATION with Art’s family will be 4:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday, November 2, 2016 The Lee Chapel.
