Arthur Roy Jourden's Obituary
Mr. Arthur R. “A.J.” Jourden, age 64, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at his home. Mr. Jourden was born January 18, 1946 to Arthur Roy and Virginia I. (Boucher) Jourden in Muskegon. He was employed at the U.S. Post Office for 40 years, retiring in 2005. A.J. served his country in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam. He was a member of Fellowship Reformed Church. A.J. loved his Harley and was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Motorcycle Club. He was also a member of VFW Post #446 and was head of the “Chain Gang” for Orchard View High School’s home football games for close to 30 years. He was an avid U of M fan and enjoyed connecting with people on Face book and “Happy Island”. On September 24, 1966 he married the former Joan P. Mattson and she survives him along with his children, Scott Arthur (Shelley) Jourden of Allendale and Kelli Lyn (Matt) Vallee of Muskegon; 3 grandchildren, Erica, Jessica and Jansen and one on the way; brother, Herb (June) Jourden of Muskegon and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Verna Berghuis. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Fellowship Reformed Church, 4200 E. Apple Ave., with Rev. Greg VanderMeer officiating. Burial will be in Laketon Twp. Cemetery with Full Military Rites. VISITATION will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue 231 726-5210 and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, please consider the Vietnam Vets Motorcycle Club, Fellowship Reformed Church Building Fund, or Orchard View High School Athletic Booster Club.
