We knew Avis and her honest, loving, beautiful smile when I worked as an aide and then teacher at Michigan Dunes Montessori. Our sons Geoff and Ross were also students there. They both remembered her in an instant when I mentioned her passing., She had such a way of impacting students to feel welcomed and safe, two very important feelings for true learning to take Place. Geoff is now 37 and Ross 32. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Boelkins family.

Avis and Bill became cherished new friends when we recently joined Covenant Church. Avis welcomed us every week with hugs and smiles. We enjoyed hearing the stories of her life and her children and their children. She had a full and happy life and said she was ready to go home. We were blessed by knowing her and will always remember her welcoming smile.
Her deep faith and trust in God show us how to age gracefully and die with dignity. W'ell miss you, Avis.

I'm very sorry to hear of your loss. Mrs. Boelkins was always such a sweet lady.When I think back about Dad working at Boelkins Market I always have pleasant memories of her and the rest of the family. She is safe now and will always be in our memories.

I knew Avis when she was young, and I was younger, when the Boelkins were our neighbors on Eugene Street. We lived right next door. I remember Dawn, Lynn, Leigh, and Neal, but I think we moved before the rest of the kids were born. I remember Avis as a very kind and caring woman ... a Christian wife and mother who loved her family and took great care of them. She never uttered an unkind word, and I remember her often inviting us in for snacks. Isn't it funny what you remember when you are young? We moved from the neighborhood when I was 12 years old, but I always remembered your wife and mother with such warm thoughts. I pray that you will be comforted by time and loving memories.

Through her son, Paul, I have known Avis for more than 30 years. She handed me my high school diploma upon graduation when she was a Mona Shores School Board member. What a blessing she was to all who knew her. Sending prayers of comfort and peace to the Boelkins family. May God hold you in the palm of his hand. Although I did not know Avis personally, her obituary proves her love for God, family, and community. I have known Bill my entire life and I think their contributions to the community through the store, the church, and through involvement in the city at large is an example for all. She will be missed by many. Bill, please know my heartfelt sympathy and prayers are with you in the coming weeks and months.

Avis was my teacher's aide when I was a student at Michigan Dunes many years ago. She was unfailingly kind, fiercely compassionate, and had a huge heart. I felt the love she had for her students every day. She helped me learn to read, and her high standards for her students helped me grow as a person. She also taught me to love dill pickles, and I think of her every time I eat a pickle. She was so proud of her children, and spoke so highly of them. Her passing makes me incredibly sad, and I'll miss her very much.

My condolences to her family on this terrible loss.
