Mrs. Barbara "Bodacious" Irene Stone's Obituary
Mrs. Barbara I. “Bodacious” Stone, passed away on June 28, 2014. Born May 25, 1927 in Worchester, MA to Joseph and Irene (Durant) Mattrick, she served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy Nursing Corps during the time between World War II and the Korean Conflict. She then attended the University of Michigan where she met and, married Thornton “T.J.” Stone in 1954, and received a degree in Public Health Nursing. They came to Muskegon when “T.J.” became Principal of Bunker Junior High School, and lived in Muskegon and later wintered in Naples, FL. Mr. Stone died in 2007. Her SURVIVORS include her children; Thomas (Karen) Stone of Boyne City, Tamara (Greg) Ricco and Tim (Kelly) Stone both of Muskegon, and Todd (Janna Gates) Stone of Traverse City; nine grandchildren; and four great- grandchildren. Her parents, husband, and a brother, Joseph Mattrick predeceased her. Mrs. Stone was very proud of her military service, her family, and her Public Health degree. She had an infectious laugh, and used it often. VISITATION with Mrs. Stone’s family will be held from 5-8pm Monday at The Lee Chapel 6291 S Harvey St 231-798-1100. A private GRAVESIDE SERVICE with Military Rites will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Helen Devos Children’s Hospital.
