Barbara Jean Dean-Boerma's Obituary
Barbara Jean Dean-Boerma, age 87, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 24, 2023, in Spring Lake, MI. She was born August 25, 1935, in Kalamazoo, MI, to John and Mary (Rombouts) Wallace. She attended Hart High School and graduated in 1952. She spent over 25 years doing administrative work for companies like GTE and Scholten Fant. On April 20, 2001, she married Kenneth Boerma, and they were able to spend 22 wonderful years together.
Barb loved to travel with Ken. They spent time traveling the U.S. by bus and train and enjoyed cruising to various destinations. She also loved to spend time in Florida during the winter months. While in Florida, she enjoyed volunteering at the Edison and Ford Winter Estates and shopping for treasures at charity thrift shops. She also liked to paint, read a good book and play cards with friends.
Barb will be missed by her husband, Ken; stepdaughter, Linda Traynor; stepsons, Brad (Romaine) Boerma and Roger (Leslie) Boerma; 9 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and first husband, Larry Dean.
A MEMORIAL MASS will be 11 AM on Saturday, September 2, 2023, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church (406 E. Savidge St., Spring Lake, MI 49456) with Fr. Bill Vander Werff presiding and VISITATION 1 hour prior to the service. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be directed to St. Mary’s School or Gentiva Hospice.
