Barbara Jean Greenwood's Obituary
Barbara J. Greenwood, 77, passed away early Tuesday morning, March 12, 2024, under hospice care following a brief illness. She was born September 13, 1946, to Lloyd and Helen (Videtich) Schaub in Muskegon and was a lifelong resident. She was a 1964 graduate of Muskegon High School and worked at GTE for 30 years before retiring. She started in keypunch, then transitioned to an engineer’s aide, pay phone collection and maintenance, finally working on handling service orders and repairs to ensure customers had a dial tone. She was a longtime member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Barb was a fun-loving, fiercely loyal, kind, patient, detail oriented, and responsible person. She enjoyed volunteering at the Frauenthal Center for the performing arts, working and playing on her computer, gardening, volunteering at the Mona Lake Boat Club, and vacationing, especially at Curtis in the Upper Peninsula. On April 7, 1971, she married Gene R. Greenwood at St. Viator Parish in Las Vegas, NV., and he survives her along with siblings Frank Schaub, Ron (Brenda) Schaub, Lou (Cleda) Schaub, Mary (Steve) Boxer; sisters-in-law Rhonda (Ken) Carson, Sharon (Bill) Hansen; many nieces and nephews; family friends Mary Mohrhardt, Bruce Conner, Carol Payne, Liz Rasmussen, and Marilyn Diffendal. She was preceded in death by her parents Lloyd and Helen Schaub. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 239 W. Clay, Muskegon, with the Rev. Fr. Kyle Kilpatrick presiding. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass. Burial will take place at St. Marys Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
