Barbara J. McCarthy's Obituary
Barbara J. McCarthy, age 83, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 22, 1934 to Raymond and Margaret (Horvath) Berwald in Racine, WI. After graduating from Grand Haven High School, Barbara married David R. McCarthy and raised her five beautiful children. Barbara’s signature everyday look was simple yet classic, always carrying one of her many designer purses. She was a great seamstress and an avid reader. She enjoyed shopping and watching the Detroit Pistons, especially during the “Bad Boys Era”. Barbara had a love for tulips, spotting them wherever she went. Her dogs Cory, Pepsi, Meggie, and Gina gave her much joy over the years. The simplest things in life gave Barbara the most happiness, one of which was walking hand-in-hand with Rowan, her great-grandson. She enjoyed giving to others - her generosity being her most admired trait. Barbara was adored by her friends at Mill Point Place Senior Living Community in Spring Lake, and she will miss them dearly. “Mom, you were taken too soon and will be missed profoundly.” SURVIVORS include her husband, David R. McCarthy, 5 children; Ellen (David) Robinson, David McCarthy II, Neil McCarthy, Suzanne Jackson, Timothy (Lori) McCarthy; 7 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild; half-brother, Tom Chambers; half-sisters, Linda (Richard) Schneck, Patricia Chambers and Sara (Robert) Schultz. Barbara was preceded in death by her half-brother, Bill Chambers. A private family service will be held. Share memories with the family at www.sytsemafh.com.
