Barbara was a long-term patron and donor of West Michigan Symphony (formerly West Shore Symphony Orchestra). She was particularly dedicated to supporting its programs for youth, and she attended not only concerts but donor celebrations and dinners. We will miss her; in fact, we already do. Our hearts are with her children and family members.
“Mrs Murphy”, I never called her Barb, was a second mother to me. Her son Richard and I skated together for many years. She designed and made many of our skating outfits. One summer the 3 of us had an apartment in student housing on MSU campus. I remember we all loved to read, but Richard and Barb were reading the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Someone, I think Richard finished the first book b4 Barb finished the 2nd. When she wasn’t looking he grabbed the book and started reading. I listened to the 2 of them argue over reading this book/series for several weeks that summer. I have so many wonderful memories of us it’s hard to pick just one. Love you Mom #2. Rest In Peace. 🙏
Barbara was a great teacher. She was the first and second grade teacher for my son, Mark and first grade teacher for daughter Diane. Enjoyed conversations with her at dinner before symphonies.
