Barbara J. "Barb" Rasmussen's Obituary
Barbara J. “Barb” Rasmussen, age 89, passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on May 4, 1934, to Earl and Lyla (Simonson) Swords in Muskegon, MI and has remained a lifelong resident. She graduated from Muskegon High School class of 1952. Barb was a dedicated employee of Central Paper Credit Union working as a manager for over 30 years. On May 5, 1953, she married Cecil Rasmussen and they celebrated 47 years together. He preceded her in death on June 8, 2000. She was a longtime member of Calvin Christin Reformed Church. Barb enjoyed the simple things in life, such as reading a book with a cup of tea, taking her dog, Chloe for walks and needlepointing Christmas stockings for all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Above all, she loved her family, especially being a grandma. She will always be remembered as a loving mother, doting grandma and great-grandma and wonderful sister. Barb will be missed by many. She is survived by her three children, Deb Burkall, Ronn (Kathy) Rasmussen and Teri (Andy) Buckner; 9 grandchildren, Chad, Tracy, Roni, Clark, Megan, Whitney, Morgan, Michael and Kristin; 19 great-grandchildren; brother, Kirby (Karen) Swords; and sister, Kay (Chuck) George. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Richard (Delores) Swords and Donald (Jan) Swords; and special brother-in-law, Paul Vanderberg.
