Barbara A. Richards' Obituary
Barbara A. Richards, age 93, passed peacefully on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at home. She was born on April 30, 1930, to Jack and Sylvia (Plue) Joslyn in Muskegon and has remained a life-long resident. Barb dedicated numerous years to the Muskegon Chronicle working in the mailroom specializing in delivery preparation. On July 15, 1950, she married the love of her life, William Richards at his parents’ home in Muskegon. Together they cherished 66 years full of love and laughter. She had a strong will and great faith that brought joy in knowing and loving the Lord. Barb was blessed with a green thumb and took pride in her thriving garden. She was generous by nature and loved passing out mints and lifesavers wherever she was, earning her the nickname the “Candy Lady.” Above all, she loved spending time and making timeless memories with her family. She will be remembered as a wonderful mother, doting grand and great-grandma, amazing aunt and dear friend to many. Barb’s kind and loving-spirit will be missed by many. She is survived by her son, Blake (Sandy) Richards; two grandchildren, Heather (Jesse) Morningstar and Adam Richards; two great-grandchildren, Colton “Colt” Morningstar and Liberty “Libby” Morningstar; special nieces, Joan Nellis and Sue (Don) Nielsen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Richards; two sisters, Loree (Jay) Berkema and Nathalie (Ronald) Whitsell; three brothers, Phillip (Mary) Joslyn, Gene (Margaret) Joslyn and Jack (Evelyn) Joslyn Jr.; and mother of Heather, Maisy Grace Hover. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in Barb’s honor can be directed to Weesies Brothers Garden Center & Landscaping.
