Barbara J. Sprague's Obituary
Barbara J. Sprague, age 89, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2019 at her daughter’s home in Newaygo, MI. She was born July 14, 1929 in Muskegon to Richard and Blanche (Wilson) Townsend and was raised in Hesperia before settling in Muskegon where she lived most of her life. Barbara married Luther P. Sprague in Muskegon on April 19, 1947 and he preceded her in death on February 5, 1981. Barbara worked 26 years at S.D. Warren Papermill and retired from the laboratory in 1994. She attended Wolf Lake United Methodist Church. Barbara was a life member of VFW Post #7729 and was active with the Oakridge Golden Eagles Retirees. She was a “Red Hatter” and enjoyed traveling, especially taking lots of pictures. Barbara was a very caring person always ready to help others. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include 5 children, Leonard Sprague of Fremont, Richard Sprague of Fremont, John (Karen) Sprague of Muskegon, Donald (Linda) Sprague of Altus, OK, Jenny (Carl) Blain of Newaygo; 11 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 2 brothers, Robert and William Townsend and 1 sister, Beverly Gerrans. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, June 1, 2019 at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Ave., (231) 726-5210. Visitation will be held 10-11 AM Saturday before the service. Interment will take place at Egelston Township Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Muskegon Rescue Mission or the Disabled American Veterans.
