Barbara E. Suber's Obituary
Barbara E. Suber, age 82, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 18, 1941, to Mike and Marjorie (Zimmerman) Velik in Grand Haven, MI. She graduated from Grand Haven High School class of 1959. On January 14, 1961, she married Dave Kieft, together they cherished 30 years full of love, laughter and many boating trips. He preceded her in death on May 7, 1991. Barb worked alongside her husband, Dave, for many years at Bolthouse Charter in Spring Lake. Dave was the captain, and she was his 1st Mate and together they perused the waters on their boat, Gambler charter fishing. It was a passion they shared together. After his passing, Barb married Doug Suber on June 13, 1992. Doug and Barb spent about 25 years handling the paper route for both Grand Haven and Grand Rapids. He preceded her in death on September 3, 2018. Barb had a zest for life and never knew how to sit still, whether she was fishing, hunting or driving along her paper route. She finally ended her working career at Easy Mart, retiring at the age of 82. Barb enjoyed spending her time on the water or pressing her luck at the casino. Above all, she cherished the moments spent with her family and friends. She will always be remembered as a loving mom, amazing “G-Ma” and “GiGi”, wonderful sister and dear friend to so many. She will truly be missed. She is survived by her two children, David Kieft and Tami (Paul) Bowne; two grandchildren, Alex (Rachael Martin) Bowne and Korrinda (Joshua Harkey) Bowne; five great-granddaughters, Lillianah, Genevieve, Jaylee, Audree and Esmae; brother, Terry (Beverly) Velik; and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband, Dave Kieft; 2nd husband, Doug Suber; sister, Judy (Gene) Kubicki; and brother, Ron Velik. A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 1401 S. Griffin St., Grand Haven, MI 49417. A visitation with the family will be held from 1:00-2:00 PM. Barbara will be laid to rest at Lake Forest Cemetery.
