Barry J. Flowers' Obituary
Barry J. Flowers, 70, passed away Thursday December 14, 2023, at his home with his family by his side. Barry was born January 8, 1953, in Muskegon, MI. to the union of Charlie and Clara Flowers. Barry was born and raised in Muskegon, Michigan. He graduated from Muskegon High School in 1971. In 1984 he started his first charter bus company, Flowers Charter Services. Barry was a charter bus driver for over 40 years. In addition to owning several charter bus companies throughout his career, Barry also worked for the Muskegon Housing Commission, Meijer, he operated the Muskegon Trolley Company, and Handivan services. Barry drove his final bus trip in June 2022, while working for Compass Coach Inc. Barry enjoyed golfing and attending car shows all over the state of Michigan. You could often find him at the casino playing the slots or outside working on one of his vintage cars. Barry was everything to everyone and he is known for the love and support he showed his family, friends, and loved ones. Barry’s recent church home was Blue Lake Baptist Church where you could find him singing in the choir, leading devotion, and assisting with the youth. Barry is survived by his four children: Darrell Thomas (Latesha), Sherry Chapman, Jennifer Flowers, and Michael Flowers; grandchildren: T’Asia Thomas, Corey Chapman Jr.,Cayla Chapman, and Kaizer Flowers; siblings: Mildred Flowers, Franklin Flowers, Norman Flowers (Rebecca), Ladon Flowers (Mary), Larry Flowers, and Michael Flowers. He was preceded in death by his father Charlie Flowers; mother, Clara Flowers; sister Betty Jean Nicole Flowers-Williams; grandson Jordan Flowers; niece Tiffany Flowers-Simmons; and niece Antwanette Flowers. Barry will especially be remembered for his kindness, willingness to help others, and all the bus trips and car rides that so many had the privilege to experience. If you had the pleasure of meeting Barry you know that he was larger than life, charming, and he brought light and laughter into every room.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will be taking place for Barry on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 1:00 PM, at Kingdom Embassy Covenant Church, 3025 Glenside Blvd, Muskegon, MI, 49441. VISITATION will be taking place on Friday, December 22, from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI, 49441, and also one hour prior to the service at church on Saturday.
