Mr. Basil Cichun's Obituary
Mr. Basil Cichun, age 89, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2013 in Muskegon. He was born on September 9, 1923 in Strutynizny, Ukraine to Olexa and Justina (Jaskiew) Cichun and moved to the United States in 1951 from Germany. Mr. Cichun had worked for 35 years as shipping and receiving clerk at Muskegon Paper Box before retiring in 1986. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a former member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church. He enjoyed dancing, gardening, and watching the birds, but most notably, Basil was a caring man and a loving husband. On October 29, 1960, Basil married the former Arlene M. Sutton in Muskegon, MI and she survives him along with his goddaughter, Maria Misak; 1 sister-in-law, Ruth Califf; several nieces and nephews; and his 6 precious kitties. He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen; his parents, 3 brothers, and 3 sisters, all of Ukraine; 1 sister-in-law, Doris A. (Glenn) Ketchum; 1 brother-in-law, Melvin (Joan) Sutton; and 1 niece, Lela Johnson. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated at 11:00 AM Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Antony Britto and Rev. Fr. Michael Bliszcz concelebrating. VISITATION will be 1 hour prior to the service at church and from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Wednesday at The Lee Chapel (6291 S. Harvey St.,231-798-1100) with the ROSARY prayed at 6:00 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery. MEMORIALS to the American Heart Association would be appreciated.
