Bradford Denham
Heartfelt condolences to the entire Szymas / Rose family members, friends, and colleagues of my Aunt Betty. I wish all the Denhams were there in person yesterday to honor Betty at the memorial gathering in Grand Haven, but we were there in spirit regardless. Hopefully, the tribute plants arrived in time and can be cared for in the coming years by family or friends to honor her and her memory.
So many memories of Betty back in the ’60s and ‘70s, especially when Clyde, Georgie, Brett, Barney (the dog,) and I made our summertime pilgrimages back east to see family in Indiana and Michigan. Honestly, pulling into 1326 Washington Ave. to see the family was always the highlight of the trip. In later years the gathering of all the families, relatives, and friends there in that same kitchen where raucous laughter carried through the evening and where Aunt Betty was always the center of attention…or maybe I should say the ringleader of the group…remain as wonderful memories. I can just see it now…everyone enjoying themselves and laughing so hard there wasn’t a dry eye to be found. I would imagine the folks from the same group that have passed were looking down upon the memorial and doing the same thing…telling jokes, laughing, and enjoying their heavenly perspective as family and friends below paid tribute to our very own Nurse Nasty.
Aunt Betty was truly a special person and will be missed by family and friends alike. We miss you, Betty, and as she always said in her birthday cards to me, “Go Navy…Beat Army!” Indeed.
