Mr. Benjamin Fekken Jr.'s Obituary
Benjamin “Ben” Fekken, age 88, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2014 at his home in Ravenna, MI, following a courageous battle with cancer. Ben was born on October 9, 1925 in Shelby, MI, to Benjamin and Winifred (Bottema) Fekken. On February 12, 1946, he married Eunice Louise (Lohman) in Montague, MI. Eunice passed away on July 15, 2002 after 56 years of marriage. Ben lived in New Era, MI, most of his life and worked at Meyers Chevrolet until he retired after 46 years. He was groundskeeper at the New Era Cemetery for 32 years. He also served as a volunteer fireman many years for the New Era Fire Dept. Ben was a loving husband, father and grandfather who thought the world of his grandkids. SURVIVORS include his 2 sons, Alan Fekken of Whitehall and Brock (Beverly) Fekken of Gettysburg, PA; daughter, Sharon (Scott) Nienhuis of Norton Shores; 6 grandchildren, Michael, Brian, Amy (Ottinger) Jennifer (Johnson), Nicole (Stelly), and Andria (Dalson); 12 great grandchildren; 4 step grandchildren; 3 brothers, John (Dorcus) Fekken, Raymond (Mary) Fekken and Harold (Joyce) Fekken. He was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Jacob (Jeanenette) Fekken, John Fekken (at age 2), and Francis (Rica) Fekken; 3 sisters, Winifred (Herman) Plescher, Genevieve (John) Houseman, and Dorris (Wesley) Lohman. Later in life Ben moved to Ravenna where he married Jeanette Darcy in 2005. They were blessed with each other’s company for 9 years before she passed in April, 2014. Ben is also survived by 7 step children and several step grandchildren. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held on Wednesday June 18, 2014 at 11AM at Sullivan Community Church, 3951 Barnes Rd., Ravenna, with Rev. John Romanosky officiating. VISITATION will be held one hour prior to the start of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Mercy VNS Hospice or to Sullivan Community Church.
