Mr. Benjamin H. Paulus' Obituary
Mr. Benjamin H. Paulus, age 77, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2017 at his home. He was born on July 28, 1940 in Manistee, MI. to Benjamin and Elsie (Somsel) Paulus. On July 12, 1960, Ben married his high school sweetheart, the former Janice Parsons, in Wellston, MI. before moving to Muskegon in 1964. He worked for Shaw-Walker Company for 38 years as a welder. Ben was kind-hearted, easy-going and able to carry on any conversation with a stranger. He was a former Cub Scouts leader, Sunday school teacher, youth leader and jail ministry leader. Ben was a mentor through storytelling and a known jokester. He was a member of First Wesleyan Church and former member of the Church of the Brethren. He enjoyed fishing and taking walks in nature. Ben will be lovingly missed by his wife of 57 years, Jan; children, Chris (Janene) Paulus, Lori Paulus, Kenneth (Bridget) Paulus and Erik (Carla) Paulus; grandchildren, Breanna (Josh) Betters, Sinjin Paulus, Kaley Paulus, Cassie (Ben) House, Cody Fuller, Ash-Lee Paulus and Kamrin Paulus; 6 great-grandchildren; siblings, Wanda Brewster, Robert Paulus and Linda (Ray) Asiala; many nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles, Art & Lucille and Pete & June; and 3 brothers-in-law and 3 sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, January 4 at 11AM at the First Wesleyan Church (1040 E. Forest Ave., Muskegon). Visitation with the family will be on Wednesday, January 3, from 5-7PM at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 E. Apple Ave., 231-726-5210, as well as one hour prior to the service. The burial will take place in the spring at Ferndale Cemetery in Wellston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Wesleyan Church.
