Bennetts "Ben" Ross Card's Obituary
Bennetts “Ben” Ross Card, age 72, of Spring Lake, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2008. Ben was called to his final resting place, doing what he loved, on the “16th”green.
Ben was born in Highland Park, Michigan on January 25, 1936 and has lived in the Spring Lake area for the past fifteen years. He was employed by CSX Railroad as an engineer until his retirement in 1998. Ben was a member of the Grand Haven Elks where he loved to play Euchre, the American Legion Post of Dorr, Michigan, the Grand Haven Eagles, and the Polaski Lodge of Muskegon. He was twice a former Golden Gloves Champion, and was an avid golfer.
Ben is survived by his two daughters, Tammy (Rob) Lee of Hastings, MI, and Sherry Petchauer of Lake Park, Florida; one son Brandon (fiancée Marguerite) Card of Wyoming, Michigan; his life partner, Pam Nelson and her children Jodi and Jen Nelson; eight grandchildren, Robb Lee of Petersburg, VA, Amanda (fiancée Preston) Lee, Haley Card and Alyssa Card of Wyoming, MI, Spenser Geboly of Grand Haven, Avery Ware of Boulder, CO, Ryan Fohlbrook of Wyoming, MI and Marty J. Carr of Wyoming, MI; one sister, Donna (Sam) Burgess of Mesa, AZ; two great grandsons Cory and Zachery, and the mothers of his children; Marlene Card and Roxie Vincent. He was preceded in death by his grandson Bryan Ross Lee, and his brother, Jimmy Card.
A celebration of Ben’s life will be held on Monday, October 27, 2008, at 11:00 AM at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad of Grand Haven (East Chapel) with Post Chaplain Ed Jaworowicz officiating. Military rites will be provided under the auspices of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28. Friends may meet the family on Sunday, October 26, 2008, from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at the VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home.
