Benny J. Garvey's Obituary
Mr. Benny J. Garvey, age 70, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, July 6, 2020. He was born on November 27, 1949 in Shelby, MI to Floyd and Laura (Puckett) Garvey. Benny was a Veteran of the U.S. Army and served his county during the Vietnam War. He worked for Sealed Power for 35 years and at the same time worked full time as a postal carrier for 25 years prior to retiring. Benny enjoyed swimming, motorcycles, and dirt bikes. He loved nature and going for hikes in the wilderness, but nothing could compare spending time with his family and grandkids. Benny was a former member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he helped Sister Lucille in the RCIA program, and was active in DeColores. On October 6, 1973, he married the former Theresa Ingersoll, and she survives him along with three children Adam Garvey, Cassie (Tim) Hufnagel, and Kirt Garvey; seven grandchildren, Sam, Collin, Emma, Olivia, Avila, Benjamin, Owen; two brothers, Warren (Cindy) Garvey and Timothy Garvey; many nieces, nephews and their families; and his beloved dog, Sweetie Pie. Benny was preceded in death by his parents; stillborn son, Benny; sisters, Vicki, Debrie; and brother, Larry. MEMORIAL SERVICES will be 11AM Thursday, July 16, 2020 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100. VISITATION will be 1 hour prior to the service. Memorial Contributions to Wounded Warriors will be appreciated. Burial will take place in Mona View Cemetery.
