Bernard J. "BJ" Brondyk's Obituary
Mr. Bernard J. “BJ” Brondyk went to be with his Lord on Saturday evening, February 12, 2011, at Mercy VNS Hospice. Bernie was a life resident of Muskegon, a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Laketon Bethel Reformed Church. He was a 30 year employee of the Muskegon County Sheriff Department, where he served as a Deputy and then it’s Emergency Services Director. Over the course of his law enforcement career, Bernie received the “Liberty Bell Law Day” award, the Emergency Management Award, in 1983 and numerous other awards from Muskegon and its adjoining communities. He also served on the Muskegon County Metropolitan Planning Committee and on the Muscular Dystrophy Board. Bernie enjoyed golfing, fishing and football along with just taking care of his yard. On October 20, 1972 he married the former Nancy Postema and she survives him along with 4 children, Darlene (Jerry) Phillips of Fremont, Corkie (Paul) Carlson of Muskegon, Claudia (Tom) Peliotes of Muskegon and Daniel (Susan) Brondyk of East Grand Rapids, MI; 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; and by his very special, life-long friend, Dennis Porter of Muskegon. Bernie was preceded in death by his parents, Derk and Tena (Lamon) Brondyk and 2 brothers, Arend and Claude Brondyk. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11 A.M. Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Laketon Bethel Reformed Church with the Rev. Dr. Sherwin Brantsen officiating. For a more lasting memorial, you are asked to consider the Building Fund of Laketon Bethel Church.
