Bernice V. "Bernie" Sebring's Obituary
Bernice V. “Bernie” Sebring, age 97, passed away on Thursday, November 21, 2024, while enjoying a card game. She was born on December 2, 1926, to Stephan and Marianne (Olesczski) Gurecki in North Shade Township, MI. On August 31, 1946, she married the love of her life, Wayne “Dick” Sebring in Lansing. Together they cherished 64 years full of love and laughter. The couple made their way to Muskegon in 1950 and have called it home ever since. Bernie was a faithful servant of the Lord and a dedicated member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. She served numerous years working funeral luncheons and with the food pantry. Bernie was a member of both the VFW Post #446 and the DAVA #11 Auxiliary. In her earlier years, Bernie was an avid golfer, and she continued this trend throughout most of her life. She also enjoyed knitting, reading and watching hummingbirds. Bernie had a passion for playing cards and winning most games of Scrabble she played. She was known for her sense of humor and ability to lay down the law while loving you unconditionally. Bernie loved her family fiercely and treasured the moments spent with them. She will be missed by her children, Patricia (John) Collinge and David Sebring; daughter-in-law, Carmen Sebring; seven grandchildren, Christopher (Kelly) Buys, Nicholas (Brandy) Buys, Rachael (Phil) Chester, Andrea Guerrero, Jennifer Jones, Stephanie (Mark) Schultz and Kiara (Zach) Gonzalez Sebring; 11 great-grandchildren; two special nieces, Barb Veldman and Anne Gurecki; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Dick Sebring; son, James Sebring; five brothers, Frank, John, Stanley, Virgil and Leo Gurecki; and sisters, Victoria and Emily. A Memorial Service will be held on her birthday, Monday, December 2, 2024, at 11:00 AM at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
