Mrs. Betty J. Beekman's Obituary
Mrs. Betty J. Beekman, age 89, passed away Saturday morning, March 10, 2012. She was born May 8, 1922 in Muskegon to Harry and Mary (Scholtens) Vanderlaan and had been a Muskegon area resident for 80 years. Mrs. Beekman had worked for Child Evangelism for many years and then Ryke’s Bakery for 20 years before retiring. She was an active former member of the Muskegon Gospel Chapel in Muskegon, attended Calvary Church here in Muskegon, and then North West Gospel Hall in Grand Rapids. She was also very involved with her family and grandchildren, and enjoyed gardening. On May 8, 1941 she married Alfred R. Beekman in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2000. SURVIVORS include 5 children, Judy Majeski of Muskegon, Mary (James) Leonard of Ludington, Dianne (Dennis) Rosenow of Manistee, Allyn (Julie) Beekman of Pomona, CA, Pam (& special friend, Betty Austin) Beekman of Muskegon; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sister, Beatrice Vanderlaan of Muskegon. She was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, Peter and Jack VanderLaan; 2 sisters, Berdine Guikema and Anne Vanderlaan; and her son-in-law, Tom Majeski. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 with Pastor Bill Rudd officiating. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery.
