Mrs. Betty May Carlson's Obituary
Mrs. Betty May Carlson passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus, Thursday, August 29, 2013. She was 90. Betty was born in Muskegon April 20, 1923, the first child of Richard and Geneva (Christensen) Stayman, and lived in Muskegon most of her life. She was married to Stanley G. Carlson in 1942, and their loving partnership lasted 71 years. Stanley survives her, along with a sister, Doris Allen. Another sister, Donna Ellis, predeceased her. Stanley and Betty raised four children: David Gunnar (Normajean) Carlson, Linda (Ken) Doctor, Dick (Carla) Carlson, and Roger (Sue) Carlson. They have 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Betty’s calling was as a wife, mother and homemaker, although she also worked outside the home for a time for Seven’s Paint and Wallpaper, Data Center, and World Book Encyclopedia. She was a charter member of Mona Shores Baptist Church, a membership she proudly retained even while attending Sheridan Drive Baptist Church in her later years. A serious student of the Bible, Betty taught Sunday School classes for many years, and was a friend and mentor to many young Christians. In her lifetime she composed more than 400 songs, including many Gospel hymns and choruses, for which she, like her family, thanked God. A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Betty will be held 2:30 PM Sunday, September 22, 2013 at Mona Shores Baptist Church with Rev. Thomas Siefert officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 6-8 PM Saturday, September 21, 2013 at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100. MEMORIALS to Mona Shores Baptist Church or Sheridan Drive Baptist Church will be appreciated. Share memories with the family at their On-line Guest Book at www.sytsemafh.com
