Betty J. Hager's Obituary
Betty Jane (Livingston) Hager, age 97, of Whitehall, MI, went to be with Jesus on March 5, 2026. She was born on June 17, 1928, in Muskegon, MI, to Oscar and Jeanette Livingston. Betty was a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and “mema great”, who found joy in spending time with those she loved. She was an avid crafter and spent many hours sewing, knitting, and crocheting. She was a faithful member of her church and poured herself joyfully into teaching Sunday school for many years, believing wholeheartedly that introducing young hearts to Jesus was among the greatest gifts she could give. Betty was a kind, generous, and loving woman who lived her life caring for others. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Marlene Hager and Jan (Bruce) Potter; granddaughters, Hope (Matthew) Barnes and Hannah (Jacob) Grinwis; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Nora; sister, Sharon (Robert) DeBoer; and many other relatives and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Violet Perro; infant son, Steven; and beloved husband of 67 years, Oswald. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at St. James Lutheran Church, 8945 Stebbins St, Montague, MI 49437. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Lutheran Church or to Hospice of Michigan. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staffs at White Lake Assisted Living and Hospice of Michigan for their compassionate care these last few years. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Whitehall Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 816 S. Mears Ave, Whitehall, MI, 49461.
