Betty Hoeksema's Obituary
Betty Hoeksema, age 90, went to be with her Lord on Monday evening, August 30, 2010, at the Poppen Residence. She was born December 23, 1919 in Muskegon to “Bert” and Gertrude (Medendorp) Hoeksema and had resided in the Muskegon area most of her life. Retiring in 1983, Betty had been a teacher for 32 years with Muskegon Public Schools, teaching at Hile, Froebel and Oakview schools. She was a member of Calvary Bible Church, MARSP, NEA and MEA Retired Teachers. She was a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa- IOTA Chapter. Betty loved photography and traveling; and enjoyed the culture of five continents. SURVIVORS include 2 sisters, Delores (Fred “Pete”) Bishop and Audrey Burgess of Muskegon; 2 brothers, Marvin (Mildred) Hoeksema and Dr. Ronald (Lieschen) Hoeksema of Muskegon and by several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Rev. John and Jay Hoeksema and by 1 sister, Evelyn Buthker. SERVICES will be 2PM Friday, September 3, 2010 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey Street Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100) with Pastor Ed Arndt officiating. VISITATION will be one-hour prior to the service. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS to Western Michigan Christian High School or Christian Care will be appreciated.
