Betty J. Johnson's Obituary
Betty J. Johnson, age 94, of Spring Lake passed away Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Heartwood Lodge Hospice Residence. She was born December 22, 1923 in Milwaukee, WI to Fred and Jessie (Chittenden) Borchers. She grew up in the Nunica and Spring Lake area and married Richard C. Johnson after WWII on October 7, 1946 in Shelby, MI.
Betty was a creative person. She was a member of Nortonville Gospel Chapel in Spring Lake, was involved in Sunday School, and wrote children’s christmas programs. She loved poetry and wrote many poems and short stories. She enjoyed sewing, gardening, was a great cook, and she was famous for her cheese cakes. Betty was recognized for her leadership in the Girl Scout program for over 25 years. Living with Richard in Spring Lake, they always hosted a big family picnic for many years as the Memorial Day parade went down Savidge St. in front of their home.
Betty is survived by three children: Lee Ann (Philip) Kenyon of San Rafael, CA, Brian “Bo” Johnson of Spring Lake, and David C. (Linda Kaveny-Johnson) Johnson of Sun Valley, ID; two grandchildren, Kevin Kenyon, and Andy (Allison Crystal-Kenyon) Kenyon; four great grandchildren: Max Tripp, Henry Batke, Violet and Scarlet Kenyon. She is also survived by her sister, Dorothy Walker of Grand Haven and a sister-in-law, Pat Borchers, of Grand Haven. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Richard on September 11, 2013; her sister, Helen Thomas; and her brother, Fred Borchers.
A Celebration of Life service will be 11:00 AM Friday, June 22, 2018 Nortonville Gospel Chapel. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Private family interment services have been held at the Spring Lake Cemetery.
