Betty May Klootwyk's Obituary
Betty May Klootwyk, age 87, passed away Monday, May 25, 2020. She was born May 17, 1933 in Muskegon to Jacob and Clara (Zuidema) Schaalma and had been a life resident of the area. For 25 years, Betty had worked as a housekeeper/nanny for Dr. and Mrs. Harryman and family. On May 20, 1967, she married Gerald A. “Jerry” Klootwyk in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on January 28, 2011. Betty loved to decorate her home, garden, read, and go for walks. She also loved spending time with her step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. SURVIVORS include her step-daughter, Beej (Thomas) Doran; 3 step-grandchildren: Andrea Crowell, Kelly (Edson) Lee, and Justin Doran; 6 step-great-grandchildren; 1 step-great-great-grandson; 2 brothers: George (Carol VanderJagt) Schaalma and Steven Schaalma; multiple nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Gail Terpstra. Betty was also preceded in death by a step-son, Larry Van Klootwyk; 3 brothers: Harold, John, and Kenneth; and a sister, Dorothy Pulsifer. Due to the COVID-19 outbreak and social distancing, a private family service will be held at a later date. Burial will take place next to her husband, Jerry, in Pine Hill Cemetery, Fruitport, MI.
