Betty Lou McClellan's Obituary
Betty Lou McClellan, 78, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 10, 2026, at her home in Spring Lake, Michigan. Betty was born in 1947 in Holland, Michigan, to William and Henrietta Sloothaak (Bobeldyk). Betty graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1965. She married Samuel McClellan on June 22, 1968, in Grand Haven.
Betty was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband, Sam; her son, Heath McClellan (Jenni); her daughter, Amanda Gielczyk (Matthew); her cherished granddaughter, Larissa, as well as her sister, Cindy Tracy (Richard).
For more than 25 years, Betty dedicated her professional life to serving students as a para‑professional working with special education students at Spring Lake Schools’ Jeffers Elementary. She was deeply committed to her students and saw each one as important and worthy of attention, kindness, and encouragement.
She enjoyed reading, playing cards, traveling and especially spending time with her granddaughter.
A celebration of Betty’s life visitation will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2026, at The Spring Lake Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 213 E.
