Betty Moen's Obituary
Betty (Mendez) Moen, age 73, passed away at home on Saturday, November 21, 2020. She was born on August 5, 1947 to the late Feliciano and Timotea (Sanchez) Mendez in Shelby, MI.
Betty worked for many years at Sappi Fine Paper as an administrative assistant. After her retirement from the paper mill, she went on to have a career in retail for several years, both in sales and management. She was never one to sit still.
Betty adored flowers and was a very avid gardener and she also loved birds, particularly cardinals. She loved to decorate her home, especially for the holidays. Betty was very devoted to her faith all of her life and it helped her through many tough times. She loved to sing and to laugh and could often be caught dancing like nobody was watching. Most of all, Betty loved and adored her family beyond measure, and they brought her the most joy in life. She was affectionately and lovingly called Mama Bear.
Betty is survived by daughters Deborah Wilks (Jeffrey) and Jamie Wilczak (Christopher) of Muskegon; beloved grandchildren, Glenn, Ryanne, Owyn and Eryn; brother, Jose Garcia (Sylvia) of Texas; brothers-in-law, Gordy Moen (Sue) and Dennis Boe (Liz); sisters-in-law, Gail Kurdziel (Tom), Carol Fagan of Muskegon, and Carmen Mendez (Trinidad) of Shelby, as well as several beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by John, her loving husband of 51 years, and also her siblings, Maria Josefina McGraw (Noe), Juanita Mireles (Edmundo), Maria Refugio Paiz (Martin), Trinidad Mendez (Carmen), Feliciano Mendez Jr. (Marilyn), Lucia Galvan (Lorenzo), Feliciano Garcia (Juanita), and also nieces Louisa Mae Galvan, Tina Marie Galvan-Flores, Lamar Mireles Gest and nephew Richard Mendez.
