Betty Jo Sikkenga's Obituary
Mrs. Betty Jo Sikkenga, age 90, passed away on Thursday, May 25, 2023 in North Muskegon. She was born on September 7, 1932 in LaGrange, Georgia to Christopher and Lois (Thompson) Smith. On December 7, 1950, Betty married Louis G. Sikkenga and they enjoyed 48 years together prior to his passing in 1999. She worked as a waitress her entire career, retiring from Holly’s at the Holiday Inn where she had worked from the day it opened. Betty enjoyed reading, acrostics, spending time with her family, and traveling with her husband. She is survived by her two daughters, Karen Gordon and Kathy (James) Behling; four grandchildren Staci (Jason) Jackson, Matthew Behling, Amanda (Brad) Austin, and Ryan Behling; nine great-grandchildren, Caitlyn Babb, Thomas Short, Paul Jackson, Carrie Jackson, Emma Kate Jackson, Isabella Behling, D`akota Behling, Ashley Austin, and Sydney Austin; brother, Charles Smith; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Louis; parents; son-in-law, Tim Gordon; granddaughter, Christy Gordon; and siblings, Christopher E. Smith, James D. Smith, Edward Lee Smith, and Darlene Avery. SERVICES for Betty will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, June 1, 2023 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services. VISITATION will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at The Lee Chapel and from 10-11AM on Thursday prior to her funeral. Burial will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
