Betty Arlene Vondestinon's Obituary
Betty A. Vondestinon age 85, passed away peacefully at her home on May 10, 2014. Betty was born in Muskegon, Michigan to Ernest and Lucille Race on July 23, 1928. She was a graduate of Ravenna High School and a lifetime area resident.
On August 21, 1948, Betty married the love of her life, Ivan Vondestinon. Betty and Ivan loved to entertain guests in their home and were well-known and loved throughout the Lakeshore community. They were blessed with 57 years of matrimony before Ivan’s death in September, 2005. One can only imagine the joy when Betty is reunited with her beloved Ivan!
Betty was employed at Continental Motors for many years. She enjoyed knitting hats for area foster homes and was a beautiful seamstress with a genuine flair for design and fashion. She loved gardening, playing cards and always enjoyed Sunday dinners with her sister, Pat and George Oosting.
In addition to her parents and husband, Betty was preceded in death by her brother, Earl Race.
Betty leaves to cherish her memories her sisters Patricia (George) Oosting and Marylou (Ross Gilbert) Becklin; her nephews Jon Oosting, Jim Oosting, David (Julie) Becklin and Mark Vondestinon, along with many other nieces and nephews.
Betty was compassionate, caring and loved animals. She will be missed by her adopted furry friends Buddy, Toby and Spike who she loved and visited weekly on Sundays. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Noah Project or Pound Buddies Animal Shelter and Adoption Center.
Funeral Services for Betty will be conducted on Thursday, May 15, 2014 at 1:00pm at the Throop Funeral Home of Ravenna with Pastor Don VanSlyke officiating. Burial will follow at Ravenna Township Cemetery. The family will be at the funeral home from 12:00pm until time of service.
