Betty J. (Smith) Vargo's Obituary
Mrs. Betty Jane Vargo, age 83, of Muskegon, MI, passed away Monday, March 15, 2010 at her home. She was born December 9, 1926 in Muskegon, MI to Steven and Elsie (Schott) Smith. Betty married John S. Vargo on April 19, 1942 in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on March 24, 1994. She worked at Pawlowski-Korson Greenhouses for many years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was active on the Altar Society and the Catholic War Veterans Womens Auxiliary for many years. She was also a member of the D.A.V. Chapter 11 Womens Auxiliary. She is survived by 1 son, Steven (Barbara) Vargo of Escanaba; 1 daughter, Gloria Vargo of Muskegon; 1 grandson, John (Amy) Vargo; 1 sister-in-law, Margaret Smith; 1 brother-in-law, Martin (Nancy) Vargo; 1 step-sister, Grace Bartos; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, John S. Vargo; her son, Andrew M. Vargo, her parents, Steven and Eslie Smith and her brother, Charles H. Smith. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, March 19, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Brown as celebrant. INTERMENT will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. VISITATION with her family will be 6-8 PM Wednesday and 2-4 and 6-8 PM Thursday at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey Street 231-798-1100. The rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM Thursday evening. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Harbor Hospice.
