Betty Marie Hanes' Obituary
Betty Marie Hanes, age 81, passed away at Mercy Hospital, Sunday, November 20, 2011 following a very short illness. Betty was born in Big Rapids, MI on April 26, 1930 to Edgar and Blanche (Cook) Obert. She was a graduate of Big Rapids H.S. and studied music at Spring Arbor College. Betty enjoyed quilting, painting, nature and spending time with family. The former Betty Marie Obert married Mr. Nile P. Hanes in Big Rapids on March 15, 1952. She is survived by: her husband, Nile; three daughters, Amy Raley of Muskegon, Molly (Michael) Clark of Lavonia, GA and Jennifer (Michael) Humphreys of Twin Lake; one son, Nathan (Bobbie) Hanes of Muskegon; 16 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two step-children, Richard (Julie) Hanes and Loretta Chandonnet; three brothers, William (Betty) Obert, James (Joann) Obert and Dewey (Sharon) Obert all of Big Rapids; and two sisters, Nina Eldred and Hazel(Glen) Marvel of Big Rapids. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Valerie, granddaughter, Heather and a step-son Tom. The funeral service will be held at: The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100, 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 25, 2011, Rev. John W. Stenberg officiating. She will be laid to rest in Egelston Twp. Cemetery. Visitation: One hour prior. Memorial: Please contribute to the Muskegon Rescue Mission.
