Beverly J. Showers' Obituary
Showers, Beverly Jean, widow of Raymond. The sunrise of our Mom's life was March 21, 1926. Her sunset arrived on October 25, 2014. Mom was born to Murvine and Mary Ellen (Buckley) Fortney in Muskegon, MI. Mom attended Muskegon Public Schools, including Muskegon High School. During World War II, Mom left high school and worked for both Amazon Company and Paper Roll doing her part to help the war effort. On July 26, 1944, she married Raymond F. Showers. She moved to Tucson, Arizona where our dad was stationed. They lived there until dad went overseas. She moved back to Muskegon and went back to work. After the war ended, they started their family, having two daughters in the next two years. Mom was a stay at home mom who was a room mother at our school, helping our teachers with projects and parties. She was a Girl Scout leader and was very involved in our lives. In 1978, she returned to high school, earning her diploma from Fruitport High School. We were all so proud of her. She worked for Weight Watchers as a leader and later, she would earn her Realtor's license and sell for Century 21. She was delighted when she became a grandmother and enjoyed that title very much. Mom was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Muskegon Heights. Mom will be greatly missed by her 2 daughters: Suzanne (Ronald) Pratt and Pamela (John) Allard; 2 grandchildren, Matthew (Nancy) Pratt and Renee (David) Siemiet; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and brother-in-law, George Showers. Mom will also be missed by her many loving nieces and nephews.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, her 2 infant grandsons and her dear friend of 75 years, Della Reyes. We wish to thank the wonderful people at TimberRidge Nursing and Rehab, who took such wonderful loving care of our Mom. Memorial Service will be held November 10, 2014 at The Lee Chapel (6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores) at 1:00 PM. Following the services there will be a luncheon at the funeral home. Burial will held at 3:30 PM at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Muskegon.
